Ductwork Assembly

Overview

The ductwork test track consists of 3 main sections and 2 corners. For thorough testing an up and a down slope were needed. This way for every run the vehicle being tested will have to climb a slop and decent a slope. The structure is supported by adjustable PVC pipe stands. This way the angle of the inclines can be adjusted.

Stand construction

The stands are designed so they can be easily raised and lowered. They are constructed of 1” and 1.25” PVC pipe. Please note it is important to use these sizes because they fit snugly inside of each other.

Adjustable duct hinge

The hinge is constructed by attaching the duct connecter supplied with the ductwork. The connector should be placed on the side that will be on the inside of the bend. After the connector is in place tape it in place on the inside and outside of the duct.

Next cut a piece of sheet metal that is the same width as the duct. Note that it is important that the sheet metal fits snugly inside of the duct. If it fits snugly the ducting will not be able to rock side to side and will be much more stable. Place it inside of movable duct and on top of the stationary duct. Tape the sheet metal on the outside the stationary duct. Glue or tape magnets to the free end of the flap so it will stay attached and will still be able to slide freely when the movable duct is adjusted.

To seal the sides of the duct cut a piece of sheet metal that is the same height as the ducts. Tape it to the side of the stationary duct. Glue a magnet to the free end of the flap so it will stay closed.
