Week 2

New Person

This week I have mainly worked from home, and when I mean home, I mean the lab. So, I really didn't meet any new people this week as I only went to NNSS once that week are already familiar with the people I see.

Cultural Insight

So this is a recent discovery, but it was clear to Nathan and I that what we do in the lab sometimes is apply band-aids to things. Meaning, we focused on the short-term solutions, so whenever we did testing as of recent, there were problems that was solved in a rushed manner. These issues could've been fixed if there was more effort in the design, but wasn't and we have to pay the price and fix it ourselves. I mention this because at NNSS, the only problems we had were ones they had zero control over (battery of devices, environment, etc,), and the ones we did have control over were mainly code issues. This realization made us think that we need to start designing things in a reliable manner, rather than a specific use-case.

Self Lesson

I don't know if this is a good or bad realization, but I am starting to notice how much I can count on people to do certain tasks in a clearer manner. At NNSS, there are groups of people who are specific towards a certain area, like manufacturing, so there is a required reliance on them, and for a team, you would need to trust them to update or get you something to continue on working for the overall project. In DASL, as of right now, I can only rely to a very few people. I gauge reliance on personality/attitude, work ethic, knowledge, and how they respond to failure; and besides the very few, I am willing to overwork or put in more effort to get something done because I can complete the task in a faster manner.

Technical Projects

Finally, I can work on code and ROS2! For the past few weeks, the only thing I have been doing is CAD and learning about GIT, so I am starting to get burnt out about this. Thankfully, my supervisor said I can start dabbling into code with the two cameras we are currently using for our project. Luckily, I have already dabbled into ROS2, so the transition between ROS1 to ROS2 isn't the worst. I am starting to get the feeling that the intensity will starting racking up.
