Week 2
1. Photo of the week: What impressed you to take it, select and write about this photo?
I finally made Furo operate with Joy-stick. I could move the Furo with Joy-stick forward and back and turn around. Actually I drove a Furo about 10m in the DASL lab. This photo shows a moment from a video of Furo moving, but in the actual video, you can see that Furo moves very smoothly. “Additionally, by attaching an Arduino and a mini computer to Furo, I created a device that allows communication between a person and ChatGPT. The system is set up so that when you press a button on the Arduino and say 'Hey Furo,' they can have a conversation with each other.
2. New person (outside of DASL) that you met? How did you or the person initiate the encounter, what made the encounter challenging or easy, and how did it help you?
This photo shows me bowling at a bowling alley with my foreign friends. They introduced me to the bowling alley, took me there, and we bowled together. Since I bowled relatively well, I taught them how to bowl better.
3. What institutional or American/Vegas cultural insight did you learn this week?
Last Friday, during the demonstration, I repeatedly failed, but the VIP guest kindly reassured me and waited patiently so that I wouldn’t feel embarrassed. I’m not sure if this is closely related to American culture, but I truly appreciated their kindness this week.
4. What did you learn about yourself?
Last Friday, I was preparing to demonstrate FURO working smoothly for some VIP guests. It had been functioning perfectly before, but unfortunately, it suddenly stopped working, and I was caught off guard. This experience made me realize the importance of being extra thorough when preparing devices for events, and I definitely don’t want to make the same mistake again.
5. What is the status of your technical projects and what skills did you learn?
Currently, when operating Furo, the motor occasionally doesn’t function smoothly. I believe this issue is related to an error in the encoder's state, so I plan to inspect and analyze it next week. After resolving this, I aim to establish a more stable communication system with ChatGPT and, ultimately, achieve wireless operation of Furo.
