Week 5
Photo of the Week
This week was only a 3 day work week because of the 4th of July. Because it was a long weekend, I took a couple trips into the Capital to sight see and play tourist. I went to the Capital Building, toured the Air and Space Museum, attended a National's baseball game, and walked around the National Mall.
New Person
On Tuesday, we went to the Capital Police training HQ and built them a training course, much like the one that we have here at NIST (mentioned and pictured in Week 4 blog). The courses are built and designed to fit inside of a shipping container, thus being easy to ship, store, and move around as needed. There were multiple people there at the training facility that we met. One of them being the instructor for the entire drone systems for the capital police.
Cultural Insight
This week I witnessed the Government at work firsthand. What I mean by that is that everything takes forever, and hopefully gets done the first time to avoid any delays. Since we went to the training HQ for the capital police we needed to submit for different credentials, which we filled out and submitted the week prior. But upon arrival to the facility, they did not receive any of our paperwork. After having to fill it out again in person, and waiting almost 2 hours, we were just administered Day Passes instead of the passes until the end of the year, that we applied for. At the end of the day, the job got done and that is all that matters.
Self Lesson
This whole trip has been amazing, and it's been a personal journey as well. I won't go into details, but there have definitely been some much-needed changes in my life that I believed were faults of my environment, not myself. Since being removed from that environment, and realizing that the fault is my own, I can finally move onto bigger and better things.
Technical Projects
Now that the courses are built and mostly complete, the next step in my project will be to connect my computer to SPOT and get sensor data for my end of the summer presentation. I would like the visual representation for my presentation.
